Hi,
I habe a AVR-4306 and I will control ther AVR with a RP-6 connect with a CM-232.
I send "PWSTANDBY\r" from the T2-c, notthing.
I conect the AVR with my PC (RS232, wenn a turn off the AVR I can see that the AVR is going down. To view the RS232 i use SerialTool. What must I do to activate the RS232 in the AVR-4306?

Gruß Volker

You most likely will need to connect a ground wire between the ground terminal on the RP6 and the phono ground lug on the receiver.

Yeah, I second the ground issue.

Your settings are 9600,8,N,1?

Hi Chris, hi tgrugett,
thangs for your answers, the settings are like you write.
I thing the problem is not the ground. You kan look hier:

The CM-232 have a ground pin, sorry the manual is in German "Masse means Ground"

Have you tried running a wire between the phono ground and the RP6 ground terminal anyway?

I have run into the problem a couple times before. The first time was when I did a setup without a mid Atlantic rack. I had used this setup many, many times before and never had issues. (but never without a rack). Drove me nuts trying to figure it out. Then someone told me about the grounding issue. In the previous setups the rack had acted as the ground between the RP6 and the 3806. I ran a ground wire between the two and BOOM! Like magic.

Pin #5 (the ground) on the CM232 does not ground the two components together. Some of the Denon receivers are lame that way.

The grounding issue is documented clearly in the RTI CM232 configuration bulletin available for download on their site.

Hi trugett,
I have now access to that side. Can you sent me the Document to my E-mail Account?

If you have access to the dealer site it is available for download.

Your power standby command is correct.

Make sure that you are not in hex entry mode when entering the 232 command into the RTI 232 window. Make sure your Baud rate and Parity settings are correct.

Do not use a null modem adapter or extension cable.

Make sure a ground wire is connected from the RP6 ground terminal to the phono ground lug on the receiver OR to another positively grounded point. You said the ground wire was connected to the bottom of the receiver. Are you sure you are making good contact?

Make sure you Power the receiver on Manually first and then issue an off command via 232

If you follow these steps it should work fine. If you followed them correctly and it does not work perhaps there is an equipment issue with the receiver or the RTI gear.

These issues are discussed in this post.

Dont use the extender cable that comes with the RP6, those are for IR only.

RS-232 is bulletproof with Denon AVR's. You need to check the communication protocols for the RS-232 and set them as per Denon's procedures...9600 Baud, etc.

I know this is solved - but it took me a bit to realize you need a RTI RM-433 with Antenna to recieve RF signals by the processor before it can send the RS232 commands out... just fyi.
