T4 re-boots every 4 out of 5 touches of the screen?

I have been using a T4 in my family room for about 6 months now. The T4 sits on a table right next to my chair in the T4 dock. Starting about a month ago, almost every time I press the screen to wake up the T4 it re-boots. I would say 4 out of 5 times I try to use the T4 it reboots, drives me crazy. Two days ago I left the T4 off of the dock for two days to see if I would have the same problem; not once did it re-boot. After the T4 battery was low I put it back on the dock and charged. As soon as it was fully charged and still on the dock, the re-booting issue was back.

As anybody seen or heard of this problem? I have had two of these remotes in the last 8 months and both have been extremely flawed. As a new custom home dealer, it is making it hard to sell these products.

Not to mention, I also have had a high pitched buzz from day 1 when you activate the screen. RTI seemed to just ignore this problem when I contacted the western regional manager.

I am pretty frustrated.

I've seen this before. I've been doing RTI for about a year now. The T4 starts acting up a lil bit on me when the batteries are low. My suggestion is to leave the remote on the charger while the system is off, like overnight, and don't use the remote while its on the charger.

Overcharging the remote might cause some problems too. (when the remote is fully charged and on the base station, the voltage may be higher than operating voltage)

This will also damage the battery because while you're using the remote the voltage goes down (while current is being drawn from the battery) and it draws current from the charger. When its no longer drawing current from the battery to run a macro, etc, the voltage in the battery goes back up higher than the battery can handle, and it gets burned off with heat. The heat warms the lithium ion gel material and deforms it, thereby breaking down the electro-nuclear bonds and reducing the amount of charge the battery cells can hold.

I'm going into waaaay too much detail. The simple solution to avoid a problem:
Don't use the remote while its on the charger.

Side note: If the battery goes bad, you can get them extremely cheap from RTI distributors.

Jars28, thanks for the reply.

RTI pitches that you can use it on the dock, also all the other high end brands of remotes allow the user to use their remote on their dock at all times.

I don't want a temperairy fix and really don't want to tell a customer, oh by the way, you shouldn't use the remote while it is on the charger.

RTI designed the remote to be used on the charger at all times. This is why the remote is slanted when sitting in the dock, so a user can read the screen without having to pick up the remote. Who wants or has the space to keep a dock and a remote sitting seperatly on a side table.

Anybody else have any thoughts?

I don't have a problem using the T4 while on the charger. I use the one at my desk all the time.

The buzzing noise from the screen needs to be addressed! Hopefully more people will complain and they will finally address the issue.

thefish,

When RTI said to replaice it, did it cost you or did RTI pay for the replacement?

They said call Avad and get a replacement, so Avad sent me 2, and I sent 2 back to avad with a RA. Let me clarafy. RTI said send them in for repair, I said that wasn't an option, as i can't have my client not able to operate his gear until they send them back. (if you are a control company, you have to understand that) Avad billed me for the 2, but if I don't get a credit on the 2 I sent back, there will be big problems. I'm sure they will credit me. I of course ate the shipping both ways.

I'm sure its lost in the new computer system.
