I have done many DTV SD boxes before, silver with blue light. I have always used the H10 or D10 codes. I have a brand spanking new SD box that will not respond to the discreet codes. I got so frustrated that I did not even check the model number before leaving for the day. In retrospect, it got the best of me, one of those days. So I am checking model numbers now and I found some of my 06 CEDIA DTV cutsheets. The SD DVR is model number R15. Does any one know if the SD non-DVR is R10? I saw those codes but did not try them. In my infinite wisdom I thought they were the old school codes. Thanks for any help.
I'll let you know tomorrow..

No, the r10 is the last directivo model made. Recent SD non-dvr models include D10, D11, and the D12.

There was an issue with one of the DTV models that needed a software update to get the discretes to work. Try a search in the discrete code hunter forum.

Another trick I stumbled over is Info wakes up the boxes. So a macro that switches to Directv on the remote has
Fuji Input 4
Directv Info
Marantz DSS
Directv Exit
Marantz DLPII
Fuji standard

Here is the link it was for the H10

[Link: remotecentral.com]

To update your software, go into the menu, and force a reset. Enter 02468, and you will force it to perform a software upgrade. Note that you will need to run through the installation menus again, as anything you set previously will now be defaulted.

May I back you up one step and ask why you want to turn off the power? I have an R15, which must be an early one because there's actually an R10 label under the front flip-down panel. I never turn it off. I think that would be a pain. And if you turn it off but it wakes up to record a show, does it turn itself off again? If not, you would then be out of sync...which is why you want discrete codes.

I vote for leaving it on.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ernie,
This would be the D-11 (finally checked) non DVR model. It is being used for House Sat Music.
I'll let you know tomorrow..

Tried the software update today.. It did not work. Put on a SPS-1 on and solve the problem.

Tried that. The unit would lock up after a couple of days. However, on the older HR20s we would leave those on since you had to go into the menu and place the unit in standby.

I think the question should be, is it common, or normal, or a bad receiver, that locks up after being on for only a couple of days.

And be sure you've got a surge protector on it for at least a week before asking.

Actually, I would have already ordered a replacement from DirecTV. I've never seen any satellite receiver do this, starting with the first models of RCAs that came out in the nineties and completing with all present "brother" models of DirecTV receivers. Have you ever seen a model do this? Have you seen others of this model that ALWAYS turn off after a couple of days?

If this is a good receiver, it will always turn off the same number of hours after its last use because that will be programmed into it. "If it's random, it's wrong" would be a pretty good motto for bizarre equipment behavior.
