I have a Canadian Star Choice DSS system made my General Instruments. I have hooked up the VPS-1 with a smartlinc Light sensor and a Breakout box that sends a 5volt DC signal to the VPS-1. Everything works the way it is suppose to work. You would think that I had it all figured out. NOT. It seems like the T2 which sends the RF signal to the IRF is also affecting the DSS receiver. They must be on the same wavelength. That could be easily understood except the DSS receiver is an IR receiver. You have to buy a $150 remote with an antenna with box for the RF to work. Right now some signals get confused because the receiver is getting it twice and the macros are all screwed up because I can not use the VPS-1 and the IRF to its full capabilities.

Any Suggestions.

A lot of the DSS systems have both the RF and IR circuitry on the same boards. I know my dish network receiver is that way. I had the opposite problem it was an RF only receiver and I was frustrated because I wanted to use IR. Then a Phillips rep told me that it was too expensive to make unique boards for these receivers so they put both circuits in. In my case I had to go inside to jumper the IR circuit to make it work. I think this may be the case with your unit as you have a RF option. A faraday cap (technical name for a metal cap) placed over the RF input point may help. I would give a factory repair center a call to see what they can tell you.

Good luck
Bill
