Is the TheaterTouch capable of 2-way RS232 communication with components that have serial interfaces? I have a Theta pre/pro with an RS232 interface that allows monitoring of unit status and issuance of specialized commands in concert with an RS232 capable system controller. This is the main thing I find lacking in my Pronto. If the TheaterTouch has it I am STRONGLY interested!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply. Would I need to have a hardwired RS232 connection between the T2 and my Theta? Or, does the IRF-6 base station provide the serial connetion to capable components? Sounds like I may be putting my Pronto and charging base up for sale soon!

Regards,

Tom

Base station provides the interface.

I have a pdf version of the software manual if you would like, email me if interested.

What type of equipment has a RS232 interface? I thought I had a fairly up to date HT but I do not believe anything has a RS232 connector on the back.

As the salesman said, if you have to ask, don't bother :-).

Some high end pre/pros (eg. Lexicon, Theta, Meridian, Proceed, Parasound, etc.) have RS-232 connectors for the purpose of software updates via PC and 2-way communication of unit status and issuance of commands. My Theta pre/pro has an RS232 interface. An example of where it is highly useful is that using the standard IR remote (or front panel buttons) you have to navigate through menus up to 4 layers deep to issue some commands. The Theta RS232 protocol has provisions to issue every command in the unit directly. It's very powerful, and to date only the $2K+ system controllers have been able to take advantage of it. I would think the TheaterTouch would be an appealing product, at its price point, to anyone who owns RS232 capable gear. I know I'm thinking strongly about getting one! Note that the TheaterTouch is capable of 1-way (send) RS232 operation only. You still have to pay the big bucks for a system controller with 2-way RS232 capability.

Tom,if you want 1 way RS232 control via the pronto, there is a product available. The remote reciever is around $100.00. If you are interested, please feel free to contact me. This, with programming, would probably be around the same price as the T-2.

Otherwise, this looks like a very useful remote and should be an easy sell. I just requested sales info on it for my store and can't wait to see one.

Richard,

I just sent you e-mail. If there's a product out there that would allow me to have 1-way RS232 control with my Pronto, I'm all ears! Thanks.

Tom,

You can also take a look at the homevision controller ([Link: csi3.com]) Their product is primarily an X10 controller but also offers RS232 capability.

I took a quick look at the manuals for both the
remote and the RFBase. I don't see any mention
of the RS232 interface. I guess this will be
a module?
