Trying to control a clients existing rsp-1068 and getting no response, but I can control it from hyperterminal. I can control a russound and panasonic plasma via rs232 easily from this RP6 but for some reason the Rotel is being finicky.

From their protocol doc, power-on is: FE 03 A1 10 4B FF
I've tried no spaces, various delimiters, carriage returns, line feeds but no luck.

Anybody had success with Rotel?
Thanks
Cal

Did a receiver once. Used the same style protocol.

Looked at the program and noted that the speed was 19200 8N1 otherwise the coding was exactly as you typed above with spaces no returns.

Best of luck.

Thanks Rob,

The Rotel spec states no spaces but I've tried both.

I think I'll try a null-modem cable between the RTI cable and the included Rotel rj45-db9 cable and see if that does anything.

When you are using hyperterminal, what kind of cable are you using? Is it straight or null? When you try with RTI, do you attach that same exact cable to the end of your CM-232? If not, I suggest starting there. Since you mentioned the RJ-45 to DB-9, is it safe to assume the preamp has an RJ-45 serial connection? If not, dump that adapter. Let us know how it works for you. Good luck!

Are you pressing the "Hex" button before entering the command string?
Settings 19200, 8, N, 1?
Correct Port selected?

Try a different CM232, or a different port on the RP6.

Just trying to help eliminate the obvious. Lord knows they catch me sometimes.

I was using the cable that came with the rotel (or so the homeowner says). I noticed in hyperterminal when I was connected and then pressed buttons on the front panel that I was getting a lot of unexpected junk on the screen for feedback. I made my own adapter with the rotel pinout diagram and now all is working.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

I am having the same issue controlling an RX1052 via 232/RP6. I just took a look at the RJ45 input documentation again and it looks like they document the RJ45 pin layout in reverse from the standard telco layout. The Rotel diagram indicates with tab up... facing the plug... pins 1-8 run right to left.

It looks like I may need to rewire my RJ45 to DB9 adapter to reflect this. I, of course, assumed that pin 3 was just that and not actually pin 6.
