Has anyone successfully transferred your configuration
to the TheaterTouch from a Mac running Virtual PC?

I also have a Marantz RC5000 and have no problem using Virtual PC via a USB-Serial adaptor on my B&W G3 Mac to transfer the configuration to/from the RC5000.

The program says that it is timing out, not anything about being unable to open the port. I've tried setting the Communciations Speed to Medium and Low with no luck.

Any other ideas?

Buy a PC!
Je je, just kidding, what about configuring your port for Hardware control instead software control.

I tried SoftWindows for several hours resulting in the same problems you're having. I was considering purchasing Virtual PC, when I discovered for about $300 dollars more I could just "bite the bullet" and actually let Windows in my house.

With a new Compaq Pressario, TheaterTouch worked on the first start-up. Unfortunately, I've yet to find any other use for the thing.

I'm reasonably certain you can find an even cheaper PC if you look around.

Abe - There aren't any hardware handshake lines in the cable, so software handshaking would be the only option.

Does anyone know what Baud Rates are used? On the PC at the office, I was only able to talk to the remote using the High setting for speed. It timed out with either the Medium or Low settings.

I have a serial analyzer at the office which I want to use to try to figure out the problem, but it would help to know what Baud Rate is being used.

Thanks,
Gary

I had the same problem with the Pronto before. I think that you can check the Pronto forum since both remote use the comm in more or less the same way.

As far as I remember, you should use the Keyspan serial to USB adapter with a mac to pc serial port cable together to configure with SW or Virtual PC.

I tried hooking the remote up to my PowerMac 8500 (which has "regular" serial ports) and it works fine, so this must be an issue with the Keyspan USB-serial adapter. I wonder if the Griffin gPort might work.

I've used the keyspan dual port adapter, as well as the PDA adapter with Virtual PC 3.0 with no problems at all. The one trick is to be sure to check the 'non modem device' checkbox when setting up the serial port in the Virtual PC preferences.

Randy,

Are you saying that you have used the Keyspan with the TheaterTouch? Or just in general? I have no problem with the Keyspan with other applications, only with the TheaterTouch.

I've been using both keyspan adapters with TheaterTouch for over a month now. Downloaded dozens of times. Only trick was the setting in VPC prefs.
