Have a client that is using a Polycom Vortex audio conf. system. I dial form the key pads no problem, but I want to make a dialing interface that will display what the user dials then when they press dial it I send the digits. Right now I dial by pressing dial (goes off-hook) then touch each number (sends each digit individually). I have th rs-232 commands needed to dial a string instead of individual but not sure how to accomplish this. Any insight is welcome. I just started with the RTI line.

I hear 2 questions in your post.

Regarding the digit display... this would likely take much effort until two way communication is a reality with RTI. Unless someone else has a better idea you could always use flags and as many pages as there are digit combination possibilities :).

This, of course, could be manageable if you were dialing only a few predetermined numbers.

Regarding the 232... I am not sure what experience you may have with RS232 but it should be very easy with the RTI software.

Create your button that you desire to use for a given string and make sure the output is not set to standalone mode. Right click >> edit properties >> select RS232 tab >> input proper parameters and 232 string. Make sure your routing is correct as well. You can enter the information in either hex (simple 2 digit hex numbers) mode or standard ASCII mode (\x preceeding each hex number and ASCII characters entered with no pre or postfix.)

Just for my own curiosity: Does this kind of setup result in DTMF or pulse dialing? If it's DTMF, what makes the tones?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Give them a preset page for commonly dialed numbers. (that you can charge them to update as required).

They will have to persist with the way you have done it for now for non-preset numbers OR they cough up the cash and buy AMX or Crestron.

The Polycom unit, which is very common tele/video conferencing unit in commercial installations, is doing the dialing, he is just sending IR or 232 commands to tell the Polycom what to dial.

Thanks for the responses, cma is correct I am just sending commands to tell the polycom what to dial. I have contacted RTI and he said that the features that are required for the dial string to be displayed without the butt load of pages is being worked on but no idea on when it will be released
