Has anyone programmed the RP6 to send serial commands to a UPB lighting system? I have the white papers explaining UPB's protocol, but I'm having a hard time making it work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Powerline Control Systems (PCS) has a software program for their UPB control system. You enter the comands you want to exacute into the program and it automaticley generates the hex code. I have only played a bit with this program so I can't say how fool proof it is. Email or call Scott at PCS and he should send you the CD.

Has anyone been able to control UPB via 232?

I have downloaded UPB command wiz but I'm unsure what the command should look like
Example from command wiz: 87000101FF0078

I know is \r carriage return, what is?

I have downloaded UPB upstart to program a switch and some dimming modules. I have a test system set up so I know the links work.

Any ideas or suggestions??

Thanks,
RB

I finally figured this out with the help of Brett at RTI:

"To determine the value used for Ctrl - "x" = where "x" is the letter t in your example

1) first you need to determine is the number of letters up in the alphabet that it is in decimal
2) then convert the number to hex.

t=20th letter in alphabet
20 = 14 hex

Therefore:
ctrl-t = 14h

In TheaterTouch you would make it:
Ascii mode = \x14
Hex mode = 14
______________________________________________________________
Using UPB Command Wizard a code will be generated that looks like this:
07000101FF00F8

= \x14
= \r

The ASCII code entered into TheaterTouch looks then looks like this:
\x1407000101FF00F8\r

232 Settings are:
Baud Rate: 4800
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Delay: 0

The CIM must be placed into message mode. Do do this press the program button on the unit 5 times quickly (light will go solid green) then press 10 times quickly. Press one more time to exit.

No Null adapter is needed

I hope this helps!

So what is your final take on UPB controlled by RTI? Did either of you have good luck with it? I'm considering doing this soon and would like to know before I pull the trigger.

I've had it working for about a month. Seems to be working very well. I'm controlling a few lights in my home.

We just finished a theater with UPB controlling 4 wall sconce, 2 ceiling cans, fiber optic star ceiling, twinkle module and shooting star. Intermission button on the remote was the biggest hit!

We are just activating and deactivating links, not trying to control individual lights up and down.

I think I'm going to yank the mixture of x10 and radio RA and replace it all with UPB...
