Can you use IR and RF for different sources ? For example, my TV is IR only. My satellite receiver (Sony) is set up to use RF for obvious reasons (don't have to point directly, change channels from a different room, etc.)

Can I program the RTI-T2 to transmit IR for my TV functions and RF for my satellite receiver functions ?

For now, I'm only interested in RF for my satellite receiver. I don't want to spend $ 299 to make all components RF.

Bob:

The IRF-6 will give the T2 RF capabilities. Without it, the T2 is only an IR remote control. So if you get the IRF-6, then you can select different device to be either IR or RF. You'd do this in Edit Remote Properties and select which of the IRF-6 port to use RF and which for IR.

However, I believe that the T2 will not transmit "Sony RF", but translate RF signals from the remote to the IRF-6 (which then transmits IR to the component). Correct?

Yup, that is correct. The RF sent by the T2 remote is "proprietary" to the IRF. It can not learn RF commands, nor directly operate other RF equipment, such as RF-based A/V receivers or X-10 transceivers.
