Personally I don't see the point in having every channel as a macro.

Usually, for satellite, I'll make 6 or so favourite buttons.... period. After all, satellite and cable boxes have on screen guides... and they stay current when the provider changes channel layouts.

Now, for a remote keypad (ie no TV in room) i can see the benefit...
...couple a thumb tacks and a stick of double sided tape should hold this baby up...

My ---- boss likes to see the "pretty logos".

Personally the real strenth of them to me is for the music channels. Lots of times people don't turn onthe TV to get the XM music. So the Logo gets them right to BPM.

But one customer litterally said. If DirecTV carries it I want an icon for it!
Guess who spent way too much time playing with graphic sizes.

Personally I think the LOGOS section of the remote that I am using is the biggest issue waiting to happen. Everytime COMCRAP or DIRECTV decides to shift the channels.. I have to go rea arange things in dozens of remotes. I think its a total waste of my time. Many customers see it my way and don't ever really use the Logos. But I was recently chastized for making the jump page go to the numbers page.

I pointed out that most of the time people want to go straight to a channel and are not looking ot surf 4 pages deep into my channel logos. 3 buttons to tune the channel or for page flips to find the logo. Also by giving them the numbers first they are less likly to call for a reprogram if a channel or two moves.

Feed back from LITTERALY dozens of clients led me to make the change to have DSS execute the Macro then jump to the Numbers page. But as my boss had not seen a remote in several months... he let me have it for changing it.

I constantly use the browse button. I want to know what is on the other channel before I leave what I am watching. Logos is gimicky to me. But then again my boss feels it sells the remote... because its cool when they see the logos. My response.. "know whats even cooler... when the equipment actually does want you want it too."

Control and useability should be the selling point.. not the fact that I encoded a logo for every channel on DirecTV.

BTW my home page macros are perfect when we use the gear that I tested. When somone gets "Creative" well then we have more issues.

I usually ask for 12-18 Favorite TV ( sat or cable ) channels and 6-12 favorite XM stations and 6-12 radio stations. and If they want more is 5 each

We had a client that wanted all the channels for everything, we sent him a paper with the lists wanted...12-18 TV, 6-12 xm and 6-12 radio with the paper also stating that any more were 5 each to have programmed..

His list returned with close to 150 channels broken out into groups of pages of what he wanted on all pages turned out to be 16 or so pages of icons with 9 per page

Took awhile to do and his tv was Dss..a week later he decided to add cable to the sources as well...dss was mainly for movies and sports...then called and asked for another 30-40 cable icons on the remote...did the first 18 at regular and next 25+ at 5 each..he never complained
it did begin to grate on my nerves around 80 icons or so...but I lived to tell about it

So if they want more..just add a $$ to it and collect that above normal labor..
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

Im going through this right now. Tryong to decide if I should use logos, and if the # or the logo page should be the 1st one. Also trying to decide it I should organize the logos by category with just page flips for navigation, OR have a category "page" that comes up first to select the desired category. (Sports, news, etc) Easier to get to the desired "category" w the 2nd option, but requires yet one more button press just to get to one channel.
No, I wont install your plasma with an orange extension cord hanging down the wall.

Only issue will be the channel macros. You can
rout on the RP-6 but when you do icons for channels...
well they are fixing this with the next software
they tell me.

Is this fix coming for sure? Sounds sort of mission critical with what's ahead of me...

I do both a channel number pad and logos on a T3 DSS page:

I use a Curacao TV number pad and replace all the buttons above and below the number pad with logo/macro buttons for fav channels: there is room for 3 logo buttons on top and 3 more below

I still have other pages with just fav channel logo buttons but most of the time I can navigate from the number with logo page: this is the one the page flip is set to

So with an RP6 are you in fact having to set EACH command in the channel macro to that device's port?

Now you know that the routing is done within the channel wizard. Thank heavens for that.

I got that first one done (and now a second). The first has some interesting tricks if anyone wants to see it - let me know. 3 displays on one wall with 3 separate cable boxes/swapping boxes to different displays, etc. Fun!
