Best thing to try is adding a null adaptor to the line and see if it works or not, then try without it

on the several 232 devices I have done we have needed a null
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

I'm just looking into RS232. Do you buy a box of null adaptors and try them when what you think should work does not? Source for them?
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I buy them 10 or 15 at a time, along with gender changers, from a company called Black-Box. They are local to me, but do mail order. Great customer service (knowledgeable!), and fast.

Ok, so I got the 232 on the sharp working...

Found the 232 code strings... there is a listing for power off... but not power on...

ok.. WTF???

I call sharp and they tell me there is no power on command via 232 for the aqous...

There is NO WAY that this is the case. Does anyone know what the real story is? I cant beleive that they didnt bother to include the code string for ON

Apparently you have two disable the energy star feature

Look at this thread Poat 6 and 7 for a possible solution.

Great LITTLE null modem adaptor. Gender changers also available. This product is available from many places.
...couple a thumb tacks and a stick of double sided tape should hold this baby up...
