How do I cut and paste files from one directory to another? For example Toshiba has 3 directories. I would like to have 1 Toshiba directory with sub-dir under those.

My goal is to clear up alot of the double entries. I know when I learn new codes into the database they sometimes end up in the wrong catagory. DVD changers sometimes I put it in the DVD sub/dir rather than the DVD Changer sub/dir. I would like to just cut the new "remote" and paste it into the right dir.

It takes a little time, but I figured out a way to move just one or two remotes from the Master (Mega) library to a library I've titled "Most Used".

First, I choose a remote I want to "export", then save it to a file I name "most used 2"

Once exported I open "Most used" then import "most used 2" and merge them.

Then I delete "most used 2" and start the process all over.

Seems when I "export" a remote, I have to start a new file, I cannot export to an existing file.

I hope someone knows a faster, easier way. But this is the only method I've found to copy a remote file to a different file. Having a library of codes we use most is really nice. If I need a code for a less used product, I load the Master Library and grab it, then reload the Most Used.

I just reread your post, this probably isn't what you need.
But it may help somene else, so I'll leave it.

Ok.........Here is a trick I learned

1. click on file to move
2. goto header bar on top...click remote
3. Now click rename Step 2 & 3 can be done with a Control + R as well

4. now change manufactrer, Type and model to where you want it, click OK

5. Your done

Pretty easy once you do a few...I am working on the Mega code list 10 right now
I should have it to RTI Installer n a day or two mostly finished..

There are a few manufacturers you might want to edit your selves when Im done
HUghes
Escient
Dish Network
Denon
Marantz
Harmon Kardon
and a few others...mostly the big names..alot are doubled but some have more codes than others...I just kinda am organizing a few larger files of products like these

A drag and drop would be great...I tried it a few times but no avail.

But this way works for now

A great expression I once heard was "Ask the Horse." So here it is, straight from the horse's email:

To reorganize the remotes in the IR Library manager, you’ll have to

1) Create a new library (File>New then name it something like My Master.cml)

2) Import the master library so that you’ll have access to the Master thru the IR Library Manager. (Remote>Import then navigate to the original master.cml)

3) Rename each remote you wish to move using the Manufacturer and Type that you wish it to be moved into. (Highlight the remote Remote>Rename) This is the step that will actually move the remote to the Manufacturer and Type folder in the manager

4) Delete remotes you wish to remove (Highlight the remote then - Remote>Delete)

This looks like it is more complicated than Glackowitz's method, but I just asked them about that method, too.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks guys, If I can help you sort out the mega list 10 send me what you have done, then I can start at the bottom and work up. I have had the last few days off. I know you are also working on the RTI/Crestron marriage in a similiar fashion. If not I can wait to see MCL 10.1 on the website.

The absence of drag and drop is well, a drag, (pun intended) One thing that is positive though about the library manager, is that you don’t have to save your work, if your computer crashes in the middle of your work its right there when you reboot
