Are the signals sent via the RF transmitter in the T2 pretty much fixed, or can they be manipulated via firmware? If so, would the RF transmitter in theory be technically capable of sending X-10 commands to a wireless transceiver module, after a firmware update?

If there were X-10 capabilities, I'm pretty sure it would be via a basestation add-on, as has been discussed previously. This would directly send X-10 codes through your house wiring, rather than requiring a third-party RF to X-10 transceiver.

True....but if the T2 is technically capable of sending X-10 signals via RF, I'd rather send that RF directly to a third party (MUCH cheaper) transceiver, instead of the base station.
Can't have it all, I guess :)

Well, the RF part is 418MHz... I doubt that's what X-10 uses. :-)
