Does anyone have any experience using the 3COM Palm V PDA as a programable remote control using the OmniRemote software (for just $20) to turn the Palm V into a universal IR remote ?
Cheers.

Yes, there's a few folks in the Universal Remote forum that have quite a bit of experience...

Tried it with my Palm III (actually Palm Pro that was upgraded to a III). Was ok, but the infrared output was nowhere near the output of the Pronto--I had to point the thing directly at each device. Also, the upgraded III had a much more powerful LED than the standard Palm III. Not sure what the V has. Also Pronto's screen and macro customization capabilities are much better.

I have used the demo program for the Palm III and one thing that I do not like is the size of the buttons - too small. I just bought a Pronto and although I do not have big hands, to me the bigger screen size does make a difference. There might be an issue with the range also.

The biggest problem with the Palm devices with IR is the IR is not strong enough... Watch Handspring though! There is a remote module for it coming out that will do the trick! Kenny West PalmGear H.Q. [email protected]
