I've had a long standing problem when watching laserdiscs and DVD's. I'm constantly having to adjust the volume levels! Voices are too quiet, explosions are too loud. Is it my AV receiver, a HK AVR30? Or is this just the way things were recorded and meant to be heard? Admitedly, this isn't me complaining, it is my girlfriend, as I LIKE it loud. That's why I bought this stuff in the first place! Still, it is sometimes anoying. I'm sure you all know what I mean.

That's typically the way they are. If your Dolby Digital decoder has "dynamic compression" you might want to try that.
