Have 2 of these and they have both started acting up. Not recognizing cds, skipping etc. I have bought new laser heads for both but it doesnt help. I heard that the flex cable to the laser heads are carbon not metal and thus can get worn/broken. Havent had any luck finding these ... anybody??

Thanks in advance...

PS Any other suggestions that would help get these working again??

Maybe you dont read your own posts .... There was no "more information" requested!

Only thing here was a suggestion to contact a repair center ... which, in a search for the flex cables .. is a good idea (since I havent) .. so dont get your panties in a bunch ...

Although, what would be equally heplful would be feedback, from someone who has worked on these (or had problems with them and gotten it fixed), as to whether or not they believe that the flex cable could actually BE the problem ... as I am just DIYing here, first time cracking the case on these units ...

I have worked on many different Sony CD and DVD changers, many with problems similar to what you are experiencing. There is an easy possible fix for the problem you are describing that was given to me by a friend at a service center.

I think you don't understand the process. Remember that I did not get to see the deleted stuff here... if one's panties are in a bunch and there's an issue of hot air, well, it for sure as hell ain't AIR.

So, it's been five weeks. Are we all calm now?

I also get miffed when someone says there's an easy fix and just leaves it at that.

If you really want to figure out how to replace that cable yourself, locate a Sony Service Center and order the part. You'll of course have to be lucky enough to be on the phone with someone helpful enough to search through their illustrations and parts lists to find the part number.

I was going to recommend that you contact a company that does out of warranty service, too, for advice from them. But if you really like this player, take it in for service. Realize that every minute they spend giving you advice is time they are not making money fixing, so at least throw paying for the repair into the mix. If you want to understand what's going on, tell the service person that you are curious about it and want to watch them fix it. While that will probably be considered weird, they might just go along with it.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ernie, the guy was being a douche. My first post was just asking him if he had contacted a local Sony service center, to which his reply was sarcasm. I then replied with an explanation why I asked what I asked and said that he didn't provide that information in his original post, and his reply was more sarcasm and some slight insults. My third post was letting him know that I have had the exact same issues before and was able to get them fixed with help from a friend at a service center. Since he was such a douche, I was not about to help him any further.

And, there being no further comments from him, maybe he washed down the drain with the rest of the douche.

Nope, still around. I wont attempt to go backwards here as I am not interested in any kind of justification attempt .. only in getting the units fixed, which I was hoping to do myself.

I will simply say, thank you ... Ernie ..
