I am looking for a new mid range receiver. However, i would like to be able to use the TV some of the time without using it but still get the HDMI. I really only use the receiver when i watch either a movie or some sports. Thanks.

Many A/V receivers have a mode that allows either the last chosen HDMI input, or a particular programmed HDMI input, to just pass through the receiver when the receiver is turned off.

This may not be available in a mid-range unit, but that's the feature to look for.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Onkyo and Integra receivers have the pass through feature that Ernie is referring too.

Why can't more manufacturers listen to custom installers?

So do Yamaha and Denon, now.

Wil, if he didn't solve the problem nine months ago when he first asked, our correct answers probably won't be of any use. It's helpful to check the date of the last post before adding new answers. That said, sometimes I do anyway just for everyone's sake.
