Hi,
I am in need of new sub. Looking at SVS and HSU on modest budget.
Any helpful comment/suggestions appreciated.
TIA.

What do you cal a modest budget? Velodyne makes some subs in the 300 - 500 range that are pretty good, Polk Audio, Definitive, Boston, how big is the room, what else are you using in the system, what do you expect out the sub?

I currently have a 1000 watt Phillips home theater system and would like to get rid of the passive subwoofer and put in a powered subwoofer. The phillips system does not have component audio outputs. It only has the two small speaker wires that go to the subwoofer. Please let me know how I can hook up a powered subwoofer to this system.

You only think you have a 1000 watt system, probably closer to 100 watts total. You can try a sub with speaker inputs, but no guarantee that it will work. You would be better off getting a real system, like a Denon/Boston combo.

Sub isn't going to work with a HTIB.

Agree.
Denon/Boston combo starts at $549.

I got CS2310 speakers, with CSSub10 120V. It's got L/R audio inputs. I use it with LFE input, and Marantz receiver. Sounds great.

It'll put out 1000 Watts. Once.

KilikinaCelia, are you in Hawaii? There's a remotecentral member there whose member name is Big Papa. Look him up for some advice that can be tailored to your need, room, and budget.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
