Can't believe no one has mentioned the SVS line yet. Check out http://www.svsubwoofers.com/

Do yourself a favour and check out Earthquake SuperNova Millenium 15 sub. 580 watt amp class D pulse width modulation. You will probably have to caulk and glue everything down. It has a 4" travel. Plays incredibaly high levels all the way down to 18Hz and below. I had one on loan for a week.

If you're lucky enough, you'll get your hands on a very affordable sound system that could very well get combined with your current installation but separate the TV sound system from your current one. This little wonder is called the HTP-S740 and it's made by Fisher. Now, don't you do that face when I say Fisher, I made that face too before I bought the best possible all-in-one remote control from Radio Shack, a place in which you wouldn't have caught me dead a week earlier. So, if you didn't mind giving a house mortgage payment for a remote control and paid your home theater system the price of an exotic sport sedan, this message will do you no good. We're only talking budget and entry-level common sense here with a very attractive compromise.

The kick of this system is its unusual form factor, the amp is stuffed inside a big heavy cube that also holds a 60 watt floor shaker that will knock you out when the spaceship approaches. Five other speakers complete the set with an all-in-one remote control that reaches the very practical center-speaker sensor. This analog Dolby Pro Logic enabled Surround Sound system gives a decent rendering in cinematic movie scenes, you can catch a very rare review of this little wonder at this CNET site dating back a few years [Link: malaysia.cnet.com] . I said you had to be lucky because I have the distinct impression that this discontinued model is quite hard to find. And at prices often under 300$ for the whole system, you sure get a lot of bang for your buck.

There had to be a sorry end to this fairy tale, and there is indeed an increasingly important factor to consider. This system doesn't and never will be able to render a Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. It can rock your world now but there's a chance you will one day give this setup to the kids and move on the a more imnpressive multi-channel effect. But if you want instant gratification and save some money for later, this baby is the way to go.
