I have a One for All IR remote extender, to operate equipment located in another room. I now want to put that equipment behind solid doors. I have seen the splitters and emitters available from Xantech. My question is, since my One for All receiver has an IR OUT socket on the back, can I connect this to the Xantech splitter?

I honestly don't know. I'd call Xantech or One For All (Hudson Access Group).

Well, I've emailed Xantech, and they gave me an answer to a question I didn't ask, and they aren't answering any more emails. One For All NEVER respond to my emails, and their UK helpline don't know what I'm talking about.

Guess i might just have to take a gamble! Thanks for responding anyway, Daniel.

I'd be interested to know if your gamble works. I've gotta similiar setup and have never tried what you are proposing,. even though I have a Xantech box too. If it doesn't work, here's another idea. Even though there is only one jack on the extender, you can plug multiple emitters into it. If you only need two, simply buy one of the double emitters (two attached in a y to a single plug. I needed 4 so what I did is buy two double emitters, plug them into a Radio shack MONO headphone adapter (part #42-2437, it's a Y connector) and plug the adapter into the back of the extender. Presto, 4 devices controlled from one hidden extender!

Steve,
Thanks for the response. Let me get this right - are you suggesting I don't even need the Xantech box? I just plug the emitters into the IR out of the one For All receiver by way of a Y adaptor? I guess I could even plug Y adaptors into the Y adaptors for even more outputs! It'd be a darn sight cheaper than using a splitter. (I do wonder what the box actually does other than route a single input to multiple outputs?)

Keiron-
Yep, you don't need the Xantech for what you want to do. The advantage of the Xantach is it's a hard wired (input) solution and should be more reliable than RF or IR. Those type of control boxes are typically used in situation where there is a keypad that is hardwired to the Xantech. That's what I have for my whole house audio system. In my case, I have emitters coming from my Xantech box and from my IR extender, so I've got multiple emitters attached to the same device. That's why I'd like to know if you can go from the IR extender into the Xantech, because then I would only need one emitter per device.

I still wish someone here could give us the answer about hooking the extender to the Xantech.

Well, a little more research and I found out you CANNOT directly hook the output from the extender)or any emitter out jack) to the xantech. The emitter out jack has higher voltage/current. However, smarhtome sells a IR link cable for $25 bucks that allows you to do this. It's their part # 8175. I'm ordering one today and I'll let you know how it works.
