A client has a WS-65903 and never got HD for it until today. I have NO CLUE how to get to that input, although a couple of hours of searching on this site, and also not finding it at the hometheaterspot, has informed me that there is a special menu for doing so. I have gotten into a service menu and not damaged anything, but I didn't see how that would help because I don't know what to do.

The manual is not available at the Mits web site, and I only went there because I can't believe the sparse information here in two booklets is all that came with the TV. I have seen customer comments about how worthless the manuals were.

Anybody know how to do this?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Hi Ernie,

IR codes for all of this TVs inputs ARE available on the RTI Mega code list, although it may take some time to find them. An easier (and slicker) way of getting them can be found right on the factory remote.
Now, it's been awhile since I've done this, so bear with me. The trick is to hold down the power button (making sure the slide switch on top of the remote is set to TV) while entering the numbers 0-1-0 or 0-9-0 (one combination puts the remote in discrete mode, the other returns it to normal).
Next, test to see if you're in discrete mode by testing that the "power" button is now discrete "on" and the "stop" button is now discrete "off".
At this point, a press of the "input" button followed by one of the buttons on the lower half of the remote give you the discrete power codes. (i.e., input+1= input1.).
I believe that some of the "higher" inputs are reached by pressing input+ pip buttons. I wish I could remember the exact combinations for you, but a little experimentation and perseverance should get you there.

Good Luck!

I copied this from here some time ago, hope it helps.

1.Set the Layer Switch at the top of the Mitsubishi Remote to TV.

2.Press and hold the POWER button, and while holding the power button enter 090.

3.Now the remote should function like this:

Power = Power On Discreet
Stop = Power Off Discreet
Pause = AV Reset

Pressing INPUT followed by:
PIP = DTV
1 = Input 1
2 = Input 2
3 = Input 3
4 = Input 4
5 = DVD / Component 1
6 = Component 2
SQV = Input STB
QV = Input VGA
PIP CH Up = Antenna A
PIP CH Down = Antenna B

4.When done, press and hold the POWER button and enter code 000 to return to the standard remote functions
When good enough is not good enough.

Thanks, guys, I saw both of those before posting.

AVman66,
the codes in the RTI list do not take the TV to the HD input. I checked it today.

roddymcg,
this isn't that kind of remote, I think...if I remember correctly, that method worked with the remote that was thick and slightly wide, like an 8" fudgesicle...and was definitely around in the middle 90s. This is a smaller remote. In fact, if you have a picture of the remote you are talking about, I bet you won't find a FORMAT button on it.

Mitsubishi's engineers thought that the first-generation HD RPTVs should come with the HD input turned off. I just don't get this kind of idiocy -- it's the same as DVD players marked DOLBY DIGITAL ! ! ! ! and DTS ! ! ! ! and PROGRESSIVE SCAN ! ! ! ! that come with all of those reasons for buying the damn thing...turned off.

Check this thread in the Custom Installers' Forum. That completely different approach seems to be where this is headed, and it's just a matter of time until I have the proper codes or I blow the thing up.

I'll let you know.

Ernie...Shoe is correct that you need the external
HD adaptor and I'm assuming your customer already
has this; if not it is needed. If so try this:

1.) Press MENU-1-3-7-0
2.) Use the up and down arrow keys to select DTV
INPUT. The default selection should be AUTO
3.) Press ENTER until the default select switches
to HD.
4.) Press MENU twice to exit the service menu.
5.) Now you can use the INPUT button on your remote
to cycle through the inputs; there will be a new
input immediately following ANT-B; this is the
HD input.
6.) TV is ready for HD

And he was totally exactly and perfectly correct. This and only this worked. Discrete remote codes named DTV 1 or DTV 2 both switched to that input.

Love it!
