I want to install a network jack in every room of my house. At the moment I only wish to network 3 computers together for printer/file/sharedWWW access. I would just make it all 10/100t ethernet, but if there is a "higher" standard that holds the potential for also netcasting audio and video sources, then I'd rather do that. But I only want to string ONE new cable.

Does anyone know of a fiber-optic standard, the specifications, and sources for such? I'm in no rush, so if it's a year or so away I can wait.

Thanks in advance.

There is a standard for fibre computer cabling, and any company that does wiring for business will know how to install it.

I'm more on the computer side than than the home theather side, but I've not heard of anyone proposing a standard FC standard for HT. Maybe the convergence of HT and computers will force it.

There's a definitive standard for computer fibre - http://www.fibrechannel.com/

Fibre will be expensive to install today. 100Mb/sec twisted pair is painless and much cheaper. That said, I know people (OK, engineers) that wired new houses for both... btw: Wiring for 100Mb/sec ethernet is no harder (or expensive) that running phone lines....

Hope this helps.
