i'm looking and video cables and am trying to make a decision which type to ues. S-Video, Component, or composite. I've pretty much ruled out the composite. But I read somewhere that S-video is only good for interlaced signals. Component cables would obviously be best but the only unit I've got that uses them is the DVD player. I'm runnnng through a Yamaha A1 to a Pioneer 700HDTV. I've got DVD, LD, SVHS and the PSX. Input would be appreciated..

S-Video and Component have pretty much the same image sharpness. Component does, however, have richer colors.

Hi Todd

If you can't use component out to the Pioneer for some reason, try the composite. Unless you have a really good DVD player chances are the comb filter in your Pioneer is better. the DSP A1 will pass the composite and s-vid without any problem you can pop the Pioneer back and forth between the inputs to check it.

BTW how come you just don't hook up the DVD straight to the pioneer with the component inputs, if thats the only component input you have you don't need to wory about switching via the dsp-a1

Using the composite video output will not give better results than using S-video. Using S-video bypasses the comb filter entirely. Basicaly the output of the DVD is either passed directly to the TV (s-video) or the signals are combined (composite) and then seperated again by the comb filter.
