patrick,
A little equation for you:

A) question about an urban legend told by salesmen
B) sarcastic and smartass answers
C) legend is false

A + B = C

Sorry if we weren't direct enough.

PDP's only leak when they're bought from BB for some reason....

Buy elsewhere and you'll never have that terrible leakage problem, or a sales flunky telling you that you will.....

BOY! That was easy.....

Well, you got me this time, automan. I really don't know what to say. I'm beaten down by your wit and intellectual superiority.

I can't lend any credence to the argument about leaking plasmas, because I have never seen one last longer than three years. "That's an awful lot of money to spend on a tv that only lasts a couple years."

My favorite question is, "What's the difference between HDTV and Plasma?" Very tough question to answer, I guess you could say, HDTVs don't leak.

While I sat here laughing hysterically at many of the replies above, I was suddenly saddened and ashamed at the levity over what I consider to be an extremely serious subject.

First, the leakage is not in a liquid form and you all know that. It is, in fact, in the form of a gas. A gas, I might add, that has a stench that is offensive to human senses. I can't tell you how many times I sat there in front of my plasma when suddenly that foul smell rose around me, leaving me staring at my wife in disgust while she tried to look innocent and protested loudly. After I discovered that the plasma was the culprit I should have apologised to her but, hey, it COULD have been her, right?

So, the next time you're sitting there with a bunch of drinking buddies watching the game and that "odor" invades your senses, know that it was no one in the room. Rather, it was the plasma TV that simply "passed gas" and try to ignore it.

Man, I hope with all this talk of refilling plasma, people are taking precautions to thoroughly test the fresh plasma. I'd hate to see a rash of STD's hit the HD market place all because a few people were careless with where they obtained their plasma supplies.

I can't wait to show you guys this wire "stretcher" I'm building. It doesn't actually "stretch" the wire, but you fill the hopper's with the raw material essentially a copper ingot and plastic pellets.

You Dial in the gauge on the little touch screen and place the shroud at the end of a flexible extension, and you can extend 16/4 or whatever up to 12/2 and through molecular disassembly and reassembly .. It's pretty complex, but with all we've learn at Fermi accelerator lab the last few years... it was bound to happen!

If anybody wants to invest a few bucks? Email me

before you ask... Yes it can do twisted pair and even cat5e, bot NO shielded.. The mylar is very trick to reconstitute with the evaporated metal layer, but were working on it, but that may be a few years out.

And no retail pricing is set, but it is a big ticket item.

I always thought that lousy odor came from programming content? Or does rotten programming content give the plasma TV gas? Even so, if the content gives it gas is it best to give your plasma TV a regular dose of prime time just to keep it charged? On the other hand is too much prime time harmful to a plasma TV? Is that why so many just plum up explode? Or is the plasma TV just giving me gas? All this time I was blaming it on the cheese pizza.

Where in the world would we begin pasting the warning labels?
Manuals?! We don't need no stinking manuals! a.. er..
