I guess the humor in my prior post was too obscure for many....its really pronounced "booze" since that is a requirement for proper soundstaging

In the early seventies, in the Los Angeles area, I worked at Rogersound Labs. These were hifi stores started by a guy who figured that a company's in-house speakers can sound damn fine and cost a lot less than the competition. He built quite a business starting with this philosophy, and being honest, fair and sharing with his customers and staff filled out the rest of what it took to have a GREAT business.

Early on, we had the Bose 901s on stands in front of the window. Man, did they sound like Bose 901s! (thought I was going to say great? no way!) Howard (the owner's name) decided that it would be interesting to take a couple of the two-way 8" speakers, make a triangular box, put a tweeter in front, and see how they compared to the 901s.

They blew away the 901s, and we had a new model.

We needed a name for them. I suggested that, since these speakers might be used as a romantic tool, it would be good to name them after the god of love: Eros.

So we did. And then, for about a month, until the Bose speakers were yanked by the rep because he could not stand seeing them demoed next to good speakers, we had to reflecting speaker models in the window:

Bose and Eros.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

It's many peoples opinion, mine included, that
there can be better performance for the money
spent. I will give them credit however for bringing
the concept of higher fidelity to the mainstream
consumers. Most CI guys won't admit this but
they have done a lot of positive for our market.

I am very new to the home theatre game. I myself was planning to buy a bose lifestyle system for my home theatre.
If not bose what else would you recomend. I dont have a dedicated home theatre room. Can you please advise me?

If you like the small size of the Bose, try Boston Acoustics. They make a great speaker about the same size of Bose but they sound great. If you're looking for an all-in-one package, check out the Boston Avidia 610 system for around $1000 retail.

Save yourself a bunch of money, get something that you will enjoy(and be proud owning!).
The Boston is one posiblity.

Paradigm cinema series are about the same size, will BLOW AWAY Bose, coupled with a mid reciever(Yamaha or Integra) and you'll be happy for years to come!!

About $700 dollars cheaper than the Bose lifestyle and sounds about 50 to 100% better!

MUCH more flexable.

Most people have a dvd, vcr, cable or sat.
Thats way over Bose input selectability.

Add XM, PC etc and you don't stand a chance with bose.

Get a REAL reciever, decient speakers, save $700 or so, add componets at will, and enjoy a 'robust sound' that Bose only talks about!(but can't deliver).

Do I need to say anything else?

I'm not trying to dog you in anyway!
I'm trying to route your funds into a direction that will provide you with a liftime of enjoyment instead of '15 minutes' of fame!????

In the end, It's your choice!

I'm just trying to help!
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Proud to say that my property is protected by a high speed wireless device!

Also I posted in another section asking about remotes and plasmas. Can you also help me there?
I am looking for a 42" plasma, any recomendations?
Also I am looking to buy the harmony 880 remote, any feedback on this remote and personal feelings, and what can I do to allow me to operate my system with that remote if the equipment is stored in another room?

Look here to find a Paradigm dealer in your area:

A list of reviews with links to them about the Cinema series:

The Cinema series page on Paradigm's site:

Personally I always sold the Cinemas with different sizes of subs depending on the size of the room. I haven't had the chance to try the bundled packages so I don't know about the sub.

They always worked great with a PDR10 and in a very small room the PDR8 worked pretty well. Notice I said "very small room". It's kind of a bedroom/dorm room/ den size sub not a huge vaulted ceiling living room sub.
Why all the fighting and cussing? Can't Dave play nice? We're just here to learn and have fun. It was a harmless jab, laugh and get over it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW... S-E-A-R-C-H!!!
or do the work!!!

The Take 5.2 system knocks out the Bose every time.

never had an 880 but Harmony makes good remotes. By the feedback left by many on the Hormony forum here the 880 sounds like a great remote. Also they should be anouncing the new 890 at CEDIA, if you can afford it it might be the way to go.

Wait, there's more!!
One point that has been overlooked, even though it's not about the speaker systems alone, is that you will NEVER see the Dolby Digital or DTS logos on any Bose systems Because Bose refuses to pay the licensing fees. Instead they do their own proprietry surround mode. Ask any Bose dealer about DD and DTS and watch them duck and weave.
Also, with thanks to DJY from an earlier post in January.

How about a Yamaha RXV657 $550 (XM ready), (4) Definitive Technology Mythos Gems $1,000, Def Tech Mythos 7 $349, Def Tech SuperCube III $699, Yamaha DVDS657 $229, MX-850 $399 remote. $3,226 Total. The Bos LifeStyle 35 is $2,999. Go to a reputable local shop and I would venture a guess that if you buy all the gear at once you could get a 10-20% discount. AND have a system that wouldn't even be fair to compare to B%se. You'd have a great setup with full discretes and a kick ass remote.

Any other ideas guys?
