I have a Sony Tv with only one S video input and a Sony Es Tuner that has many S-video inputs> I have a DVD player that I connected with S-Video but I also have a VCR that only has RCA outs on it. I also have a Nintendo that has the same problem. I can connect them both to the back of the tuner but if I do I would have to connect the a RCA to the back of the TV and when doing so it will not play any video becuase it detects the S-Video. From what I understand the RCA and S-Video Jacks work off different busses. Now the question is where do I find a Adaptor to go from RCA to S-video? Or is there another quick fix that is good fix, without buying another VCR. I own almost 150 DVDs and hardley use the VCR but the wife likes is and uses it. HELP

Hey Matt,

Sorry to be picky from the git go, but the "tuner" is the am/fm radio section of your receiver or pre-amp. Folks is very easily confused by such innocent miscues.

On to your problem. How many video inputs does your TV have? And is your objective to only use one input?

You could run your DVD to the S-video input then put the other two sources into a second composite input. All through your receiver, of course. As long as you're not in the same input, on the TV, you shouldn't have a problem.

Now as to conversion hardware, check out the thread zeke mentioned. Go to the first page then click previous once, the thread is near the top.

Matt,

I have a similar concern..My Denon amp will not allow me to cross input formats. Which means if one component, my VCR for example, does not have s-vid and requires RCA for video then all the sources must use RCA. And if I use a direct output to the tv on s-vid then like yours the tv defaults to the s-vid and no output from the recvr is seen.

It is important that I maintain switching on the recvr and that I get s-vid for the DVD and DSS.

One remedy I am trying is a s-vid to RCA converter. I know Monster cable makes on that is about $100+ (I need two) but I found one on Yahoo/shopping for $25. Now, before all the responses come in regarding the quality of the picture, keep in mind that I only want this for VCR and 8mm VCR. Theses are not really high quality sources to begin with and frankly I don't care if I lose some picture quality on these sources in order to gain the s-vid input on my DSS and DVD.

I have the cable but haven't installed it yet. I'll update once done.

Mike,

That is what I was looking for also. I have the DSS and DVD and have no problems with that becuase my Receiver has the inputs for both S-video and RCA. My TV only has the one input either rca or s-video. I found that cable that you were talking about and decided that was a little high. The VCR is and the Nintedo are the only reasons I want this. Both not having the S-video outs. I like the idea of the converter but I really don't need it for all thats its worth. I only need the cable to cable converter.

Mike if you have any luck let me know.

Thanks

Matt

If you are talking about the nintendo SNES or N64, get the S-video cable for it, $20 at most game stores, if this is the NES, never mind. YES the SNES is S-video capable.
