I spoke with a rep from dish network and he told me that comcasts hd channels were all upconverted and that they were not true hd. Is this true or not. Is hd the same regardless of who you go with as far as a provider? I was under the impression that all hd channels had to be filmed with hd cameras and this was the only means of doing so. Please educate me on this matter. Thanks in advance!

As far as I'm concerned, no one broadcasts true HD (1080i or p). You'll know it when you see it. It'll be that noticeable

I think what dirte is refrerring to when he says upconverted he really means compressed or even highly compressed. The rate of compression seems to vary widely, but both sattelite and cable suffer from compression.

When watching ESPN HD in High Def - not all their programming is in High Def or any of the IN HD Channels on comcast with the proper equipment you WILL be impressed. I am not a fan of comcast by no means but will give them credit there.
