I am moving into a new whouse which has an old Nutone Intercom/radio system. It is about 20 years old, but all the wiring still works. Does anyone know of a new system today that would use the same wiring? I have seen the new Nutone prodcuts and I am interesting in something that will be more advanced. I would like to have the system integrate with a compuetr storing music as well as have accesss to the radio.

If there is nothing that people know if that will work with the esisting wiring, what systems do some of you recommmend I look into?

Thanks,
Bob

Doubtful that you'll find ANYTHING other than Nutone that will work on that wiring. More than likely it's an old 3 wire system. And that's not compatible with anything that would be an upgrade.

I use a lot of the Russound CAV product, and can testify to the quality, but this would require some substantial re-wiring on your part. Of course, anything other than that old intercom crappola will.

Good luck.

Yes the russound does use cat 5. It uses all 4 pairs for 12v, ir, status, signal left, and signal right. It is an awesome system and I can also highly recommend it. If youre going to be retroing all of your wiring you can also use an abus hub with the amplified keypads to cut down on your wiring and price of the system. The only bad side is that it only has 15 watts of per power per keypad but is sufficient enough for whole house audio and does deliver quite a good amount of volume. You can do a single or multi source hub depending on how many sources you plan on distributing. The cheapest and best way Ive found is to use a single source hub and then control the whole house audio with a zone 2 on your reciever, but you lose the capabilty of independantly controling each room.
