I have a sony strde845 reciever . It runs on either 4 or 8 ohms. While watching a movie or listening to music it will sometimes make a clicking sound and either my center or my rear speakers shut off, now if i press on the front of the reciever it will sometimes click back on. I was told it was a gronding problem with the back plate of the reciever and i should tighten all screws on the back. It still screws up, whats the deal does anyone know.

A shorted speaker wire will do this, except usually in that case, the receiver actually turns all the way off so all speakers go silent.

Check the speaker connections for a stray little strand of wire on a positive lead, out where it accidentally is touching the chassis. It doesn't take much.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Check all your connections. I have a sony receiver, and it started cutting out when I was watching a DVD with the sound coming through a composite (RCA) digital cable. I pulled the cable and noticed the ends seemed oxidized. After cleaning and scuffing the ends up a bit I put it back in. It's worked fine ever since.

That clicking sound is the protection circuitry relay turning the amp channels off either from a thermal (over heating) problem, or a speaker problem which can result in the thermal problem.

disconnect all speakers and sources and start plugging them back in one at a time until the problem re-occurs. this will help you determine what the culprit is.

edited for spelling
