I'm trying to put the "On/Off" keys into an AV learning remote I have, but it's an IR only remote and the Dish 811 remote is an RF/IR remote. The CS rep told me I could NOT program these functions into an IR only remote but I rember some here saying that was'nt the case. Can anyone tell me how?

I just need the On/Off for an on off macro I'm doing and will control everything through the 811 remote anyway. (for now)

The 811's remote is RF only, so no learning remote can capture a command from it, there is way of getting IR commands directly from the 811 receiver itself. Check your manual.

Thanks edmund. I tried doing it with the receiver sending out IR signals and was hoping it would learn it that way. That's all I got from the manual.

I pointed the learning remote towards the receiver while pressing the 811 remote's buttons I needed to learn. The manual says that the 811 receiver emits IR signals after it receivs the RF signals. It did'nt work though.

There is a way to do this, but you have to set the 811 receiver to repeat the remote's commands. The receiver has to be in "Learn " mode. I posted this not too long ago. Try searching all the forums. You can also go to satelliteguys.us forums. There is a forum just for the 811, and it's been covered there too. You can also try to find Echostar Technologies technical information bulletin # 130136.

Did you go through the menu's and put the receiver in the teach mode first? I have done this on my 921 and it did work fine.

There are discrete power codes for most dish box's they are posted in the files section. These would probably work better for you than the toggle you will get out of the dish box.
