I know that speaker choice is highly subjective, but having just moved up to HDTV, the time has come to upgrade my current surround speakers (Polk center, rear and subwoofer) and 2 ADF "legacy" bookshelf speakers for the front left and right. The ADF's are excellent speakers but obviously are unbalanced with the Polks. I am looking for excellent sound on both audio (cd's and FM), and balanced excellent 5.1 surround sound. I'd like to try and spend under $1k for the speakers. Anyone have any thoughts on the various Bose speakers? Would greatly appreciate all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

my bad on the budget. i should be a little more careful. check out the def techs listed below. you can get 4 matching speakers for the fronts and rears with a center and sub. the pro cinema 100s may go over your 1k budget but may be able to get some type of discount if you purchase all at once. definitely worth a look

I second the motion for Definitive Technology! Also close to your price range is this package which will get you into some full range front towers...

Whatever you do, PLEASE don't hook up Blose to that nice Integra. That would be like putting bicycle tires on a brand new Harley!!

Def Techs are not a bad choice, even owned a pair a few years back (bp10's), but for under a grand, you can't lose with monitior audio, they constantly win "best value, best bang for the buck" awards. you should check them out. www.monitoraudio.com I would suggest the bronze line based on your budget. B2 up front, bronze center, and BFX for the rear...all within your budget.

Whatever you decide on, don't by blose. Buy a few sets of headphones, stick them on the wall, buy a $49 sub at Walmart, then send any money you have left to the marketing team at bose. The end result will be the same!!!

Bose marketing team could sell snowballs to Eskimo's. Don't buy there hype, unless you've heard them in person and you really think they sound good.

If you like the sound, save a few hundred dollars and do the headphone, cheap sub thing.

You can get 10 times the sound quality for half the price of blose!

I hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings here!!!

you forgot to tell him to wrap the ear pads in aluminium foil, to help recreate that tin like sound blose is so famous for.

Blose speakers are much LESS than ordinary once you factor in their price. They don't come close to reproducing the high OR low frequencies. My biggest problem with them is that they market themselves as "high-end" and "the best sound". That is a joke. I wouldn't have a problem with them saying "get that signature Bose sound" or something like that. Own up to what you are!!

And then there is the price for what you get. Buying Blose is like paying $5 for a White Castle slider.

Go to bose.com and check out their spec's. Oh wait! They don't post their spec's. The dealer agreement for Bose states that you will not demo Bose speakers against any other brand of speakers, or it will violate your Bose Dealer Agreement. All this tells me something. The lifestyle systems have cool technology built into them but they are still using their cube and jewel cube speakers.

The saying used to be "all high's no lows, it must be bose." For their passive subs.
