Alecki I have my home theater devices all controled by old fashion wired remotes, it was the only way for a work around to turn off my Sony Changers which react with my one IR remote. I also use this with my RCA F38310 to turn off the power completely, I don't have cable by choice I just watch my video collection, run the power a few minutes then shut all power down and off.

Sorry, but I TOTALLY missed the reference you made, in the text above, to the laptop you use to control your system. I remember old-fashioned wired remotes; they do not operate current CD Changers as those have IR remotes. What the heck models do you have. Also, how are wired remotes PCs?

I also use
this with my RCA F38310 to turn off the power
completely,

"this"? Old-fashioned wired remotes? What about the laptop?

How the heck do you watch a whole movie if you "run the power a few minutes then shut all power down and off?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Most laptops do, but they use a system called IRDA, which is intended for long communication sessions (compared to IR commands) at short distances (compared to IR commands in real systems).

Actually, I should have perhaps just answered that way instead of hassling grovvy about his lack of helpful detail.

www.home-electro.com will sell you a "Tira-2.1" which receives and transmits remote control. Connects to your laptop's USB port. You could use something like Girder to control it.
