SCART connectors (apparently) use pin 8 to tell TVs to change to widescreen mode when required. My DVD player, a modified region 2 Panasonic A160, does not always select widescreen mode even though widescreen movies are being played.
Can anyone tell me where the command to change to widescreen originates, is it the DVD player or the disk itself? Does it make any difference what region/format disks are being used? I use both R2/PAL and R1/NTCS disks and both play fine, apart from not selecting wide mode on certain disks.
I am trying to deterimine whether the mod to the player has caused the widescreen selection feature to stop functioning, or whether I have a fault or configuration problem.
(BTW: The player was purchased modded so I don't have anything to compare it against. My SCART interconnect has pin 8 connected and is not faulty.)
