I would say that power conditioning is very important, and if you want to know one of the hidden gems in this area check out the Exact Power line conditioners, they are excellent.

I've been perfectly happy with mine. MSRPs of $200, $80, $50. All from Monster, no problems whatsoever.

I don't think you need to spend a lot of money as Spiky was saying, buy one of these down below and you'll be fine:

What equipment? What surge to use depends on the equipment. The 5000 gives you high power amp bypass. If you plug your amp directly into the wall or have a lower end reciever/sound realy is not your main focus then the 3600/3500 is more then good enough.

These company always boast a 5, 10 or more thousand dollar return if there bar should not protect from damage. Does anyone know someone who actually got paid for damage. Usually there are so many loopholes that it is impossible to collect

Yeah, we had a customer's house that got nailed by lightning. It fried several pieces of equipment and Monster paid for all new equip. and surge protector. It was a nasty strike that took out lighting, A/C, pretty much everything in the house.

I just had a client with about $30k worth of gear protected by Panamax have a few power surges, one took out his computer (unknown surge protection). But the Panamax took care of his audio/video gear.
Just a little FYI

Since we're talking about high voltage and grounding, I'd like to read Larry's response to this thread.

In the early days, I thought surge protectors were just a way to help my boss's bottom line.
Now, I think of it as a requirement!
I've experianced too many situations where the surge protector really did 'save the day'!!
Monster cables 'conditioning' can make a difference (I'm almost embarrased to say)!!
The biggest problem with the Monster cable 'high end' units is that the lights are really bright! I've had to use a 'sharpy' on them numerous times.
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Proud to say that my property is protected by a high speed wireless device!

Do you know the URL for their web site? I googled Exact Power Line conditioners, and the first entry mentioned a price of $2199.00.

At that price, these gems are likely to stay pretty well hidden. But maybe the web site itself, which I did not see in the first page of google responses, would give a better representation of the range of product...unless $2199 is their middle-of-the-road product!

Oh, yeah -- for that price, they BETTER be excellent!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

What did the customer have to show/do to get paid. Were they quick to do so?
