I walked in to a local Sony Store today and it was just looking around (I know some of the guys who work there). I asked them how much would the 777ES sell in Canada? They told me the MSRP is $3000. Hmm, this is way too much (I think). I know I can probably get it for around $2500 Canadian, but still I think the US is selling a lot cheaper even after the conversion and shipping and all that.

The 777ES lists for $1500US. It won't be discounted much, if any, being the flag ship of the line.

I have seen it on the web at various places for $1299.00.

Sony's MSRP in Canada is often a fair bit more then 50% higher than the US cost. On a few items, it's been 75-85% higher -- a complete rip-off.

I don't plan to get this 777ES receiver soon but I'm really curious as to what kinda price game Sony is playing in Canada. What's the reason why we're paying so much higher than the US? Not enough people?

It can be found between $1K and $1295 on the web. I heard good reports about Oade ( www.oade.com )Audio and Onecall, but have not tried them myself.

I bought one locally for $1000+ tax after letting the sales guy know that I could get it cheaper on the web.

I was talking to a sales from the local Sony Store. He told me I could get 777ES for around $2500 Canadian. Well, it's still a lot higher than in US. But based on the conversation, I think I can ask for a bit lower. I'm not serious enough to get one now, maybe later in the summer.

$2500 is the LIST price in Canada. The Sony Store doesn't discount unless you really push them. 10-15% max if you really push them. Considering you can get it for under $1050 US ($1543 CDN) you should be able to get a much better deal.
