Backfeed into cable?

I've got only one RG59 cable feeding into my home theater room. This is split and feeds two VCRs and a TV. There are similar cable jacks in every room, all connected together at some point. Is it possible to hook the cable OUT from my VCR back INTO this infeed cable? My desire is to be able to have anything I'm tuned to in the home theater room route thru this VCR, and be fed into the cable to be found in any other room hooked into the cable (on channel 3). I already route all video sources thru this VCR from my receiver. I'm assuming the VCR's TV/VCR function would "switch" this output on and off.

Am I even close here, or would some sort of undesirable feedback result?]

this is not something that I have ever had call to attempt, but I cannot see any reason why it won't work.

All you need to do (and this may be tricky) is access the main cable input coming in to the house. There should be a Cable box on the outside of your house where all of your cable jacks are fed from. If you insert your signal at this point, you should be fine.

I would suggest using an RF modulator to insert each source onto a specific channel. This would allow you to tune to Ch 85 to view your VCR and Ch 86 to watch a DVD, etc. Each TV could then be viewing a different source.

These modulators are available from Channel Plus, at www.channelplus.com . Just be sure to get one with enough inputs to handle all of your sources.

Good Luck...Derek

Thanks, Derek.

The Cable Co. doesn't come into my house anymore. I swore off it when the price jumped to $45 and the service didn't improve. I detached their cable and pulled all the cable ends into my attic where I traced them back to the rooms they led to, labled, and put new ends on. In my attic is a Terk-50 OTA antenna. It's output is split 4 ways and sent to the four jacks where I have TVs hooked up.

As far as I know, none of the splitters used is "one-way". In essence, all the cable in these four rooms is interconnected via these splitters. My VCR already serves to modulate it's output and can put it on channel 3 or 4, but not at the same time as the antenna signal. All my sources EXCEPT the terk antenna, including DSS, DVD, Hi8 and SVHS/VHS reside in my equipment rack and feed thru an A/V amp then back to the VCR. I can record any source in my system on this VCR as all sources eventually route to it. I can view the VCR's output over cable on channel 3 or 4 of a TV. All I want to do is be able to plug this cable output from the VCR back INTO the cable circuit so that any device also hooked into this cable will be able to "tune" the vcr's output on channel 3 or 4, both of which are unused locally. I shouldn't need any additional equipment.

I also have a satellite dish, but it's signal takes a seperate path to the two receivers in the house. If my idea works, I should be able to send any DSS channel thru my reciever to my amp to my vcr and back to any channel 3/4 on any TV in the house. Since the receiver uses a RF remote, I can operate it's receiver (change the channel) from any room.

I'm planning on trying this over the weekend. I'll let you know if it works.

Dave, It sounds like you just want to send the signal from your A/V amp, thru the VCR, to multiple locations in your house. Is that right? If so, this will work, but you will only be able to view the same program as the equip rack is putting out. In another thread I stated that I use incoming and outgoing cables to distribute to other areas in my home. From the home theatre in the living room, I can distribute, via the DBS receiver, OTA and SAT signals to my bedroom TV. Before the signal leaves the room, I use an A/B switch which is also attached to the VCR. For viewing local or satellite signals, I simply use the A side and the original SONY remote which is RF. To view VCR tapes, I use the B side and, ugh, watch the crappy previews and no fast forward, etc.(Now I need to find a switch that I can send the DVD signal thru as well. Have'nt studied this enough yet) I use the same setup for the feed from the den to the kitchen. The other THREE TV's in the house are strictly local signal only, which is also fed with coaxial cable. Cable came to my house and took their OWN wire down as I have no more use for them or it!!! I hope this helps you some as I was puzzled with your post yesterday and hope I read it right today. Good luck, Dennis.

David it sounds like you are on the right track. When I had my cable disconected I Simply took the coax cable in out of my DSS receiver and plug it into the TV out coax on the DSS receiver and could view DSS on all TVs in the house that were getting cable. Since then I have added a simple ABC cable splitter in the main theater room and feed three different sources to all other TVs in the house, this switch is not remote so you phisically have to push the right button before you leave that room.(the three sources are American Sat. Canadian Sat. and one VCR this gives me plenty of choice just for the extra TVs without getting into a costly modulater)why woulld you want to send DVD with no Dolby Digital?
