I just received my Kenwood HTB-502 system and am starting to set it up. The speaker wires that came with them are pretty much crap. I am pretty new to this and was wondering what I should get for a decent quality cable setup? I know that monster cables are a good brand. Can anybody tell me the models of the wires I should get? (ie, for receiver to mains, to surround, to center, and to subwoofer) I am hoping to get decent quality for all of these for under $100. All suggestions welcome.

Zack, "original Monster" at about $1/ft would be fine for your application. Get it at Home Depot, Circuit City, etc. Otherwise, 14 gauge lamp cord would do as well and cost a lot less. I use Monster for the mains and lamp cord for the surrounds and center. If your sub is not powered, use Monster on it, too.

Zach,
Factor in about 10-15% of your total budget from your system on cables. Remember, your cables are also a component in your quest for better sound and picture. Don't forget to get yourself a line conditioner and power center too... factor in about 100-300 depending upon your system... believe me, you think that's a lot, but it does make your system sound and look better, and it also protects your precious investment!!

Monsterwire is decent wire, but you can find as good if not better for less money. Find an audio/video store in your area that has a variety of brands and doesnt try to force one brand down your throat. Look into custom car audio shops also as they use hi-end cables and wire. I sell a wicked, twisted pair of 12 guage Phoenix Gold wire that is mainly used in car-audio for $1.90 a foot. I know that is more than the monster, but look at the monster that is twisted and you will see $3.00/foot or more. A good quality(highly stranded and of coarse Oxygen free) 12 guage wire from Phoneix Gold or Vampire wire can be purchased for $.40/foot and up. I guess what I am trying to say is if your budget is tight, use your options. Dont just buy because its at your BestBuy. Their are far to many ways to expand your money if you only look for them.

Personally, I use Radio Shack 16 gauge mega cables terminated with gold pin connectors for speaker wire and their gold series interconnects. I think they sound better than standard lampcord and oem supplied interconnects. I've read alot of reviews of people who love them and a few of some people who don't. In anycase, unless you are an audiophile with a bunch of esoteric gear, you'd probably be wasting your money on esoteric cabling. I'm sure basic monster cable would work great on your system. I think Radio Shack is good too. They're everywhere and they're cheap. That's my 2 cents.
