I was hoping to find some opinions on whether on not to drop approximately $1,500 on one of the new Sonys. I have heard some negative comments about the black levels. But have heard great things about the overall picture.

Thanks.

I have the 32XBR250 and am VERY pleased. There is one defect though, that almost everyone has noticed -- the black level on dark scenes is slightly brighter on the right side of the screen than it is on the left. This is most noticable if your set does not already have it's black level calibrated properly. With all of the plusses this set offers on the picture quality side, I can live with this one minor complaint.

I also have the 32" Wega. When I went to purchase a TV for the home theater I thought that there was no way I was going to spend $1500. But once in the store I did a side by side comparison of the Wega and the next lower price Sony (and other sets) and there was no comparison. My feel was that the Wega was better. (And everytime I play a DVD or the Satelite or see another TV it just reaffirm my feelings for this set.)

I have heard and read a number of complaints about this TV (especially the 36") and I have spent time searching for these problems. To be honest I just can't see them. Of course I'm not trained in this sort of thing but I figure if I have to look this hard it can't be too big of a problem.

Just bought a 36" WEGA, absolutely love it. Use the S-Video inputs for digital cable, wow what a picture. Can't wait for the weekend when I hook up my DVD using the PGB's.

We have had a 36 inch WEGA for a year now and Love it! Using component video input gives a picture that can only be bettered buy the 34"HD WEGA.I would put it against any projo or plasma sets I have seen.

KV32FX60 for me in the UK.

Imagine looking at a picture hanging on the wall.
Once you have it properly setup - Unlike the default setup you see in most shops.

If your a true videophile, you will not enjoy the 36 inch series. The contrast problem on the right side of the screen (which won't be visible in the brighly lit showroom) rears it's ugly head very badly when watching a DVD with the lights off; especially letter boxed or anything with a lot of dark/black screens.

See my thread about Sony's. I'm hoping to get my money back from Sony. I'll never buy Sony again.

I'm looking to replace my Wega with the Toshiba 40X81 which is HDTV ready for less than the XBR250 which will be obsolete next year; or arguably is obsolete now.

We are high-end home theater speacialists. We won't put one in a home theater unless the client twists our arms. I really disliked the pix quality of the 200 series (first Year) and the second year (250 series) suffers from over processing with DRC. In their attempt to increase the pix quality they (sic) double both the horizonal and vertical pixels. This greatly softens the picture. Even watching DVD through component inputs greatly over processes the pix. Not what I would consider a good pix for over 2,000.00 for the XBR series. We primarily use front projection with commrcial scalers. Now i know most of everyone can't afford this but their just isn't a great crt based tv out there for 2,000.00 or less.
