What material is used for speaker grill cloth material or where can you get custom colors, Off white, need for custom in wall speaker front that will match wall color.

Thanks for the help!

Is their any reason you can't just paint the grille? I have found that if you spray paint the grilles, the holes don't generally fill in, and then the colour match is exact.

If you need to use fabric, look for one that is somewhat loosely woven, allowing the most sound to come through. Many Custom Car audio shops will have special speaker grille cloth in a rainbow of colours.

Accoustical trasnsperancy in grill cloth very closely equates to breathability. Go to your local fabric store, walk the isles and grab a corner from the bolts of cloth on display and discreetly breathe through them. Less resistance equates to more accustical transperancy. My experiences have usually resulted in choosing some sort of stretchy synthetic like polyester that you'll also find easier to wrap with.

I wish is was that easy none of the car stereo places in this area even have Stereo grill cloth. I am not seeing anything in the fabric stores. I emailed Thiel Audio to see if they sell there cloth loose. We'll see!

I am surprised that you don't have a car audio place that carries this stuff...

Where do you live?? If you go to a mass-marketer (Circuit City, etc) you will not likely find it.

You will need to find out who does the high end car installs in your area...they will have it.

I was looking into the same thing recently...
Believe it or not a VERY high end designer taught me a trick that worked fantastically! Assuming you have a white grill now, buy a pair of women's nylon stockings and stretch them over the grill cutting off the excess. The tighter you stretch the nylon the fainter the color. I was able to exactly match the colors of my walls and it looks and sounds great.

Good luck,

Slick
