My Sony 32" XBR (5 years old) has developed a purple spot on the left edge of the screen. It is approx. 5" diameter. It looks very much like the aura that appears when you bring a magnet near a computer screen. Does any have experience with this? I'm hoping that its something easily fixed. Is it possible that something internal has become magnetized? Any ideas?

Bfeddema,
It's about time that you have your tv set serviced. 5 years is a long time for a tv not to be serviced. Have a tech go to your home to clean and service the entire unit. You'll be surprised at how MUCH of a better picture you will see after his work.

Do you have speakers near the TV? This is a common problem when unshielded (or poorly shielded) speakers are placed near a Tube TV. Many low-end Centre channels are often poorly shielded, often causing many problems.

If this is a new problem, you may be able to fix it simply by moving the speakers further away.

If not, it is relatively easy to fix, but you really should leave it to a professional, or you could end up moving the spot to the centre of the screen!!

Good Luck...

Derek

ps. Deal with this now...it will only get worse!! and possibly unrepairable.
