Help!

...I recently added a Sony DVD S530 to my HT. I use a Denon AVR2400. My AVR2400 has inputs for "6 Channel Inputs" while the DVD has "5.1 channel output". The AVR2400 doesn't have an internal decoder.

In addition, there are inputs on the AVR2400 for DAT/TAPE but no coax or optical input.

I have the 5.1 outs from the DVD going to 6 channel ins on the recv'r and the Line out on the DVD to the switchable DVD inputs on the REcv'r.

Here's the concern. When I set the recv'r to 6 channel input to view/listen to the dvd, the sub signal drops out. It is fine in all other surround modes except the 6 channel input.

Is this the proper connection? Should I be able to play a DTS recording such as the Eagles-When hell freezes...?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have the sub connected to the SUB OUT on your receiver? Is the sub enabled on the DVD player's speaker setup menus?

You will not be able to play DTS discs, as the S530D does not have a DTS decoder (and neither does your receiver).

I have a Sony DVP-S530D and the instructions have the option for DTS!

Chris, Since there is a DTS output that means you need a seperate decoder like the technics shac 500-d only then will you be able to get dts.

Eric, I have a Sony DE-935 it had DD5.1 and DTS decoding built in. I just got the dvd yesterday and have not tried the DTS yet. Both Sonys are the best thing I have had ( vhs player and Pioneer pro logic)

Yes, the 530 will pass DTS to another decoding device. However my response was to the original poster, who's receiver "doesn't have an internal decoder", but has "6-channel inputs". That means he can play Dolby Digital discs -- which the DVD player can both decode to analog and pass to the receiver as digital -- but not DTS, since the player can only pass that as a digital signal. It does not have a built in decoder for DTS.

OK just thought you ment it did not have DTS decoding.

That's correct, Chris.
The 530 does not have DTS decoding.

Only the ability to output the DTS bitstream to an outboard decoding device.

That's probably what he meant. I make the same mistake of typing something else I'm thinking of in the wrong place now and then. :-)
