I am planning on buying a multimedia projector for my home theater so that I could attain a screen size of 100"+. I was wondering if a line doubler is neccesary and what ones if so would be in a price range below $800. Also if i were to buy a thousand line doublers would i theoretically have 96,000 lines of resolution?

Thanks any commments appreciated.

The DVDO iScan is the doubler to beat below $800. You may be able to find a used doubler for that price also. I got my NEC IDC-2000 doubler for $600 used. It does an excellent job and has a great color decoder. No, you cannot "daisychain" doublers to keep improving the image. What would happen IF that were possible is that the lines would overlap and the image would become softer instead of improving. Another alternative is a HTPC with a graphics card that can scale the resolution to the projectors "sweet spot". Then you can see the best your projector is capable of resolving.

Good Luck and Happy Holidays,

The line doubler goes between your sources and your projector.
