I presently own a H/K AVR65, its a nice deck but...I am presently looking to upgrade it. I have been told to look at the Marantz SR19, and now H/K has the AVR7000.

Looking at the AVR7000 it seems very impressive on paper. But there are two things that strike funny. 1) No THX and 2) Why bother putting a 7 channel chip and not giving 7 channels on the out.

I dont know much about the SR-19, their website is always having problems. I need to make an upgrade decision, so far these two units attracted my eye. Can someone help me on this or even suggest another unit.

The AVR-7000 will run you $1199.00 i'd recommend you take a look at the sony es line no thx certification but still great sound for a little less than what youd spend on either the SR-19 or the new Harman Kardon.

Gotta disagree with Eric. Sony makes great televisions, but I've never been impressed by their other products. I purchased the Marantz SR-19 last week. It is extremely well-built, very musical and dynamic and is also fairly future proof. It has preouts/main ins and direct ins for future surround environments. I have no qualms about my purchase and give it my highest recommendation.

I own all marantz gear and I love it. One piece is a SR-19. The benifits of it are too many to list. The shop where I work is a marantz dealer. If you would like e-mail me your address and I will send you some lit. on the SR-19. (No Strings Attached! Just Lit.) And for gods sake don't by a
H/K.

I have the Marantz SR-18 and am thrilled with it. The amplifier section sounds better than >any< Receiver I've auditioned. This baby's gotten me over my receiver bias. For me, that's saying a lot. I havn't used a receiver in my setup for over a decade.

The SR-19 is the baby brother. It's probably 96% the receiver of the SR-18 and is one hell of a unit in its own right.

I have not been impressed with H/K for quite awhile now. I had the chance to audition the AVR7000, and did lot like it. Some things that we played through it were almost "irritating" to hear. I felt the amp section was particularily thin and exhausted. I didn't care for the usability of the thing, either. That's just my take.

Thanks for all the responses. It looks like my initial gut feeling was true. SR19 is a better unit. Brian Ill email you my address for the Lit.

Thanks again

Thanks Nathan R. I just ordered my SR-18 and I was having trouble sleeping wondering if I made the right decision.

I hear the SR-18 is a great amp. It's on my short list of ones to consider.
