It has come to my attention that the reason you cannot make a copy of a DVD movie to your VCR is because of a recent copy protection scheme engineered into DVD signals and current VCR's.

I'm interested to learn about the available modifications that will get past this. I'm not wanting to do anything illegal, just make a copy of an occasional DVD for personal use. To me, this is not different from copying a CD to cassette.

Some people have suggested that older VCRs may be perfect if they were made before the copy protection chip was placed in them. I'd appreciate any information on this subject. Please email me at [email protected]. Thanks!

You can either use an older VCR (I have 2 from around 92-93, that work perfect) or go to www.sima.com for add on products that eliminate the macrovision.

Warning...

I have an old VCR that will record macrovision tapes or DVDs. It plays them back fine. Stick that tape in another VCR (one with macrovison copy protection circuits) and you will still see the effects of macrovision. The Macrovision on the master tape or DVD is recorded onto your old VCR's new tape along with the video and audio signals.

The best solution is to use a COPYMASTER from sima, as mentioned above. It will strip the macrovision from the video signal and not pass it on to the copied tape.

And, if you have a new VCR that is affected by DVD's ColorStripe Macrovision protection, look for the SIMA Color Corrector.
