Will Pro Logic II and a regular DSS receiver, sound as good or about the same as an all digital system? I would like to upgrade my old pro logic receiver, but don't want to get a new dss receiver since very few ppv's are in DD.

Thanks for any help.

No. It will be much closer than you will be with Dolby Pro-Logic though. A reason to upgrade is to go to Dolby Digital. Doly PLII is just icing on the cake. Analog sources will always be a restriction. With that said, PLII is pretty darned impressive.

You might want to consider upgrading to a digital DSS system if you have any movie channels.

HBO plays a surprising amount of movies in DD5.1. And most of the top 3 PPV's are in DD5.1. I've had a Sony A50 (i think that's the model #) for 2+ years and love it.

I also think the PL-II does a better job on the regular dolby surround than plain dobly. (that could be the ears trying to justify the $$ of the PL-II upgrade :) )

I actually watch all tv w/ "PL-II Movie"

just my $0.02...

I agree with all of the above.

Dolby Digital (or DTS) is by far the best quality audio, IF you are listening to a digital 5.1 source (DVD, DSS, etc.)

For analog HT sources (video cassettes, most broadcast TV) and for two-channel sources like VCD and audio CD, Pro Logic II beats Pro Logic by a landslide. I was absolutely astounded by the difference and I never, ever use the old Pro Logic any longer.
