I have a sony reciever with the Auto Format Decode button. When I use this button the only thing it will do is change the decoding to Dolby digital and leave it at that even if I am watching a mono or stereo movie..I though this button is supposed to look for the decoding format and pick the highest level and change the reciever for you...is this stupid thing broken or should I just go and get A Denon?

Are you watching DVDs? I believe AFD will only switch between Dolby Digital and DTS. Remember, even if a DVD is mono it's still encoded in Dolby Digital. This option will not switch the receiver from Dolby Digital to ProLogic; that needs to be done manually.

On my Sony STR-DB930, it seems when I play a real dolby Suround track the the display reads "Dolby Pro Logic", if a dolby Digital track is read, then the Blue light goes on. The display reads "Dolby Digital (3/2" or something.

Daniel, Im playing over my Computer now, "Creative Encore Dxr2" With a Shareware program I can easily switch between the area codes. A real DVD player is on the shopping list somewhere in the "near" future.
