I recently purchased a Sony RM-AV2100 remote control and the sales rep at the Sony outlet said that it could also control a Bose Lifestyle 30 home surround system. Is this possible? You can't "learn" it since the Bose remote control uses radio frequency instead of IR (or can you?). If you can help me, PLEASE email me at [email protected] . Thanks a bunch!!!

If the Bose is RF, and it is, the 2100 WILL NOT control it.

The Sony sales rep was either ignorant or lied to you, both reasons to keep me out of there.

We prefer to post responses here at the forum so others may benefit.

There is *no* remote out there that can control Bose stuff. Perhaps the salesman was thinking of B&O.

Daniel,

Any remote that can "learn" from the original remote and broadcasts RF based signals could infact learn the Bose commands.

Bose remotes are all RF Based, Infact this is one of
the features that Bose touts so much "Our remote works
through walls" Yipee! :)

Does anyone know of a remote that will learn the RF commands along with the IR. All our bose theater installs have ended up stuck with the 2 remote control situation, one for the bose and the other for all other components. I like the RF for the Built Invisible series of distributed audio, but not the theater systems.

Jeff,

If you use the Clicker Picker function of this site
and sort by remotes that can utilize RF signals. There
are only a handfull that can, one of them being the
Phillips Pronto Pro with the optional RF Module.

There is NO remote that can "learn" RF.

The Pronto Pro natively uses Infared codes then converts Infared codes to a *proprietary* RF signal to it's RF base, which then converts the proprietary RF signal back to IR codes the equipment can use.

Hope this clears things up.
