I'm moving into a new place - and want to wire my system. I'm looking for the best way to run speaker wire along the floor - but W/O damaging the walls using nails, screws or anyhting else .(Landlord is kinda anal) I saw Ikea had hollow adhesive that ran across top of floor molding and looked great - anyone know where I can get anything like that - or even adhesive clamps of some sort, and if it says speaker wire is 16 guage- does that mean it's 16mm? (Need to know for install purposes to fit clamps.) Last, but not least - if I'm putting 110 watts oput per channel x5 - does that mean my surrounds have to be able to accomodate maximum input of 110 watts? Thanks ahead of time for all your help - you guys are great! Here's the set up so far...
Sony Wega KV27FS13
Sony SLV-799HF VCR

Sony Wega KV27FS13
Sony SLV-799HF VCR
Sony DVP-S550D DVD
Sony STR-DE945 Rcvr.

Since you live in a rental, the quickest and cleanest method would be to use wiremold. This product will let you run virtually any gauge inside it. You place it along your baseboard, you can even paint it to match you walls.

You can get it at most large home centers or wholsale electrical supply houses.

Here's their site:

Good Luck...

I got something like that (to hide a cable in my computer room along the baseboard) at Home Depot.

FrEsH,

To answer your question about wire gauge:

The gauge of a conductor refers ONLY to the conductor itself, NOT the insulation. The only way to know the thickness of a cable is to either measure it, or ask the manufacturer, as there is no direct correlation between gauge and overall cable size.

As for amplifier and speaker wattage ratings, The amp rating refers to the consistant output available, but only into a load able to handle the power without sustaining damage.

The best bet is using a speaker rated at or slightly above the amplifier's rating. However, the best method is restraint. Read my answer about clipping in the "not impressed with my wireless X-10 wireless surround" thread.
