Hi all,

I'm being forced to upgrade my current Sony DE335 Rx because my new DishNetwork PVR-501 only outputs DD via a digital output, and my STR-DE335 doesnt have a digital input.

I want to stay with Sony.

So I'm torn between getting the Sony DE475 w/2 digital inputs (fiber and coax) or the DE675 with 4 digital inputs. There's a $100 price difference tween the two Rx's.

Are the added features of the DE675 worth the extra hundred bux? Will I be safe from upgrade for a few years with the DE675...Or, is the DE475 adequate?

Is there any difference in quality to the average Joe between fiber and coax?

Can I use the cheaper fiber cables from www.tradertrax.com? I'm no audiophile, just want to get DD out of my satelite rx.

If you're interested in my DE335 which comes with a 3yr warranty, it's on Ebay

Thanks
Bill

I would say for 100.00 you don't get a lot of improvement. it looks like more Digital inputs, 20 watts of power and 8 bit larger DAC (which I don't think will have a helluva lot difference) and on a Sony is 20 watts going to give you more head room? Nope not IMHO. I would go with the cheaper one if it were me

The only reasion I can think of to get the DE675 is if you are going to get a DVD player. That way, you can still add a DVD player and have your sat hooked up. Plus you will have 2 extras for "down the road". Just my $.02

Man go for the full blown one. STR-DE945 or the ES line.

Dude... now you can pick up an STR-DE945 for $399... it doesn't get much nicer than that for the price. I would just try to splurge and get it. Otherwise - just save the money and stay with the original for the $100 difference between the two lower end models. Thanks!

I think, aside from the power output difference, the 675 comes with a better remote control. I have seen the remote with the 475 and its from what I remember, you can't control certain other equipment with it easily or at all, where the 675 remote is more versitle. If you already have a good universal remote then I would not worry about it, but if you want to use the remote it comes with to contol all your equipment then check it out at the Sony site. I have not seen the 675 remote yet but the earlier 675 equilavents had a fairly decent remote compared to the 475's remote.
